EDG can cover up to 50% of your custom ERP build.
The Enterprise Development Grant from Enterprise Singapore supports business transformation — including custom manufacturing ERP and workflow system development. Unlike PSG, EDG is not restricted to pre-approved vendors or packages. You must apply before work begins.

Grant planning still needs a real workflow case
Funding support only helps when the system is tied to measurable productivity and adoption.
Two grants. Different rules. Most custom builds need EDG.
| Question | PSG | EDG |
|---|---|---|
| Works with custom-built software? | No — pre-approved packages only | Yes — custom builds qualify |
| Requires approved vendor list? | Yes — vendor must be pre-approved | No — you choose the team |
| Supports non-standard workflows? | Only if covered by an approved package | Yes — transformation of any qualifying workflow |
| Typical support level for SMEs | Up to 50% of qualifying costs | Up to 50% of qualifying costs |
| Application timing | Before purchase | Before project begins — critical |
| Needs a business case document? | Lighter — uses the vendor's pre-approved description | Yes — your workflow audit IS the business case |
| Best for Start Canyon builds? | Rarely — only if scope matches a pre-approved module | Usually yes — custom transformation is EDG's purpose |
The business case ESG needs is what we produce anyway.
EDG requires a written business case showing productivity improvement, business transformation, and a clear project scope with timeline. Start Canyon’s paid discovery produces exactly this — as a by-product of doing discovery properly.
Apply before work begins. No exceptions.
The single most common EDG mistake is starting the project and then applying for the grant. Enterprise Singapore does not accept retrospective applications. If work has begun before approval, the costs incurred before approval date are not claimable.
This has a direct implication for your Start Canyon engagement. If EDG is a factor in your budget, flag it at the discovery booking stage — not after discovery, not after we write the build scope. The application timeline must be confirmed before we agree on a build start date.
Discovery itself (the one-week audit) is usually not the project EDG is applied for — the build is. So the right sequence is: run discovery, get the business case document, submit the EDG application for the build, wait for approval, then start the build. This adds 4 – 8 weeks to the timeline but can reduce your net cost by up to 50%.
Five steps from discovery to EDG approval.
Start Canyon audits your workflow and produces the written business case. S$1,500 – S$3,000.
We assess whether your profile, scope, and productivity outcomes are likely to qualify. No cost — part of the discovery handover.
You engage an Enterprise Singapore Accredited Management Consultant to prepare and submit the formal EDG application.
ESG reviews and approves the application. Typically 4 – 8 weeks. Work cannot begin during this window.
Once approved, the build kicks off. The grant covers up to 50% of qualifying costs. You claim after the project completes.
A S$20,000 build can cost S$10,000 net.
Indicative example — actual support level depends on ESG assessment, company profile, and qualifying cost categories. Verify with Enterprise Singapore before budgeting.
* These are indicative figures assuming 50% EDG support on qualifying costs. Actual approval depends on ESG assessment. The grant is claimed after project completion and submission of deliverables to Enterprise Singapore.
EDG questions before you commit.
Can a custom ERP build qualify for EDG?+
Yes — provided it comes with a proper business case showing productivity improvement and business transformation. EDG is not restricted to pre-approved vendors or packages, unlike PSG.
What percentage does EDG cover?+
For Singapore SMEs, EDG currently supports up to 50% of qualifying project costs. The exact level depends on the type of activity and your company's profile. Verify the current rate with Enterprise Singapore before submitting, as support levels are periodically reviewed.
When must we apply?+
Before work begins. Not before signing with a vendor — before the project starts. This means the EDG conversation must happen during or before paid discovery, so the application timeline aligns with the build start date.
Does Start Canyon appear on the approved vendor list?+
EDG does not require an approved vendor list the way PSG does. You engage Enterprise Singapore or an Accredited Management Consultant to structure the application. We provide the workflow documentation and system architecture that forms the business case.
What does "business transformation" mean for EDG?+
Enterprise Singapore assesses whether the project changes how the business operates — not just buys new software. A custom ERP that replaces a master Excel, automates pricing, and enables supplier coordination across countries qualifies. A system that adds a minor feature to existing software probably does not.
Can the paid discovery fee be included in the EDG claim?+
Consultancy and project management fees are typically eligible under EDG. Whether a paid discovery session counts depends on how it is categorised in the application — something to confirm with your Accredited Management Consultant before submitting.
